Gay gene

An article in the Daily Mail suggests that there is no such thing as a single gay gene.

Preference for same-sex relationships is determined by both environmental and assorted genetic factors, a large-scale study has confirmed. This means that there is no such thing as a single 'gay gene' that determines your sexual preferences — just like many other human traits. 
Instead, thousands of genetic regions are involved, together accounting for between around 8–25 per cent of variation in sexual preferences between people.
Researchers confirmed this after studying genetic and survey data from over 470,000 volunteers taken from the UK Biobank and 23andMe.com.

Perhaps researchers should look at the Davies Hypothesis which suggest that attraction to the same sex is due to the character inherited by a child in the womb. This character need not be from the recent past but may come from many generations prior. The inherited character will also have inherited a character, perhaps from many generations before etc. At each emergence the final character will be moulded by nurturing ensuring the child is of the present time.
Whereas nature tries to match a character with the sex of the foetus, circumstances can lead to a female character with a male body and vice versa. This means that over time, everybody has some characteristic of the other sex to greater or lesser degree.

He must be right

When a politician does something to arouse the  the astronomical indignation of Jeremy Corbyn, Anna Soubry, Dominic Grieve, the Speaker, the whole of the Liberal Party then you can be assured that he has done the right thing.
So it is with Boris Johnson and his move to expedite the fulfilling of the population of the UK's desire to leave the failing European Union.
It is palpably clear that Parliament having approved the referendum and confirmed that it would abide by the wishes of the majority, has failed after three years of obfuscation and willful obstruction. The 'remainers'  are refusing to accept the result despite saying they would. They are inventing every possible interpretation of democracy to satisfy their requirement of calling black, white.

Democratic right

A political commentator from Novara Media on tv recently claimed on behalf of people their 'democratic rights'. But what are they and was she right? As with most of these 'rights' we can trace their origin in the United States Declaration of Independence which includes these words:
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
I suppose if you are US citizen it pays therefore to be a believer in God, thereby sustaining these 'unalienable rights'. But what relevance are they in reality?
Firstly, it is palpably untrue that all men are created equal. They are all different, not only physically, and one of the major differences lies in the fact that there are born leaders and born followers. It is mentioned because of the USA's shame about the history of slave labour and abuse of black workers, particularly in the South. The sentiment is re-inforced by the second term, 'Liberty' that allows the prospect of men and women being free to follow their own inclinations; to have free will under the law. It suggests to me that these rights are more to do with administration shame than it does with actual reality. Nobody has a right to anything except the chance to continue in existence, to have the opportunity to live their natural life whether it be long or short. ie one has a right not to be murdered. There are no other rights. None. There can be no rights to be happy or to pursue happiness in the same way that no one can have the right to be free from illness. It's an ambition, not a right. It's the same about democracy; it is not a right to live under democratic rule and therefore a it is a fallacy that there can be democratic rights.

Prison graduates

A judge has sentenced a drunk driver to 6 years imprisonment after mowing down and killing two people and leaving two youngsters as orphans. Four lives destroyed and yet the judge feels 6 years, out in three is justice. No personal responsibility. The driver had free will to drink and drive whilst the family didn't and yet they have suffered life sentences. British justice is an oxymoron.

Meanwhile in an inner city slum
"What are you going to do with your life, Dwayne?"
"Dunno. Not much choice really as they'll send me down for sure."
"What dya mean?"
"Well, I got lifted, did'n I. Aggravated shoplifting, wasn't it? They're going to send me down for three months."
"That's tough bro."
"Yeah! Well I'm going to enroll on one of them courses they do. Rehab, the old lags call it."
"What sort of courses are they?"
"So. It's a short course, obviously but is a starter. I get a certificate that I can use to get posts in the big gangs."
"What sort of courses are they?"
"Pickpocketing, simple burglary, conning the elderly, that sort of thing. When i get sent down for longer I can take courses on ABH, GBH, safe breaking and rape. It's all free."
"Sounds good, Dwayne. And you say these qualifications get you into the big gangs?"
"If you want to advance in the gangs, you do. They're looking for experienced shooters and knife handlers. Money's good. Better than doing normal work on minimum wage. Courses are cheaper than university; you come out with a skill and you can walk straight into a job."
"Why do they allow it?"
"Human rites innit. Freedom of movement, freedom to associate. The screws don't bother us, we don't bother them."

Cathedral fun

Rochester cathedral has installed a mini golf course and Norwich cathedral now boasts a helterskelter for the summer. The aim is to draw in more families for a liitle recreation and a lot of wonder and awe at the majesty of such fine structures. But is it right?
Of course it is as long as the God word is not invoked other than to say that these incredible edifices were built by hand by men and women infused with the spirit to build something to the Glory of God. It all sounds good but I wonder how a church servant would answer little Johnny's question about the whereabouts of God today. "I've looked all over his house and he's definitely not here, " asked Johnny.
"I imagine the creator of the heavens and earth is in heaven," might reply the servant.
"Has he installed mini golf and a helter skelter there as well?" persists Johnny.
"Oh! I'm sure he has," replied the servant. "he likes to relax after a busy day."
Johnny's father chips in: "Where do you see God, today, may I ask? Could he or she be in the Middle East, Somalia, Syria or any of the places we see on tv with the starving and bombed kids?"
"Well; its lovely to see you here. I must dash, I've others to see. Goodbye Johnny. Have you enjoyed your visit to the Cathedral?"
"I want an ice cream."
"Let's go next door, the mosque is open, we might get one there," says Johnny's mother, "They are playing war games."

Fake or Fortune revisited

It's two years since I last mentioned this.
Fake or Fortune is a very popular BBC tv show featuring Fiona Bruce and art expert Philip Mould. The first program went out in 2011.
However, in 2011, this author published a noveletta: 'Antiquities Roadshow: Christmas Edition', based on the equally popular BBC show, Antiques Roadshow. The story, narrates how the three Magi take their gifts to the roadshow for assessment as a new-born child goes missing and an attempt is made to unearth lost treasures from the New World. What is interesting is that the book was a forerunner of the Fake or Fortune program by including the forensic analysis, including x-rays, of a work of art, in the case of the book, by the celebrated Spanish artist, Murillo. In the story the principle protagonists are presenter, Leona Sluice (Fiona Bruce) and art expert, Rupert Naas (Rupert Maas). The use of the latter shows that I wrote the book before Mould was introduced in the tv series.
It strikes me that this story would make an ideal Christmas special program for the BBC, heart warming, uplifting and relevant, featuring stars we all know and love.

Anarchy in Hong Kong

What started as a legitimate grouse about new rules from the Hong Kong government on extradition of HK nationals to mainland China, has become a weekly and escalating protest. I suspect that the decent, law-abiding protesters in week one are being gradually replaced by people intent on fomenting such trouble that gives the Chinese the encouragement to take direct action. It is a classic example of actions giving rise to unexpected consequences. The protesters in weekend one will have brought on the very difficulty they wanted to avoid.
It must be difficult for the Chinese Government; they have agreed to Hong Kong autonomy for another thirty years but running a Country according to two different rules of law presents problems. In the UK, we are beginning to see the consequences of the Common Law in increasing conflict with Sharia Law. The Chinese are committed to an International treaty protecting the rights of HK citizens but they will jump on any contravention by the Hong Kong Government to annul the treaty.

Industrial blackmail

Unions at Heathrow airport are threatening to strike tomorrow, disrupting operations causing innocent people to suffer holiday or work disruption. Either you meet our demands or we shut you down is the message from the unions. How is this not blackmail? How can this be tolerated?
I suggest that the right of unions to withhold their labour should be matched by a right of employers to withhold their employment. Surely that's democratic!

Sanctity of Life

A report in the Daily Mail describes how a child of three in India was abducted, gang-raped and beheaded.

How, in the name of all that is decent, can anyone object to the perpetrators being killed? Why would anyone want to share the resources of this overstretched planet with such as these? It beggars belief that there are still those who would argue for their right to life, to enjoy the joys of waking up, experiencing the pleasures, mysteries and disappointments of consciousness having deprived this little soul of hers. If. like me, you think that the perpetrators of this particularly heinous crime, should be killed then you should be able to say that there is no such thing as the sanctity of life. They do not qualify for mercy, rehabilitation or other soft centred remedies.
Bring back capital punishment and rid the world of these objectional  animals.
